Alex MacDonald is a multi-faceted performer, hailing from Farmingdale, NY. As a tap soloist, he has been privileged to perform with such great blues acts as the Jim Kohler Band, the Sly Geralds Band, and Chrissie O’Dell; as well as with the master claw-hammer banjo player Maria Fairchild. An accomplished singer-songwriter and guitarist, he recently made his NYC music debut at Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2, and is currently fleshing out material for a full length album. As the baritone member of NARD, a professional comedic barbershop quartet, he has performed at various venues in upstate NY, including a performance for SUNY Geneseo’s family weekend concert with The Blanks (a.k.a. Ted’s Band from Scrubs). A patient and intuitive teacher, Alex is currently a tap teaching artist for the Alvin Ailey School’s Arts in Education department, working with children of all ages in NYC’s public school system. He is also on the teaching faculty at Expressions in Dance Studio in Massapequa, NY. Alex holds a B.A. in Musical Theatre with a minor in Dance from SUNY Geneseo, where he graduated summa cum laude in 2008. He is honored to have had the opportunity to meet and speak with tap legends Harold Cromer, Mable Lee, Dr. Jimmy Slyde, and Dr. Bunny Briggs. “Bamalam!”
